Began reworking the commison for Da Vinci with the feedback/ brief that they gave.
They really like the colours that I suggested.
They want the illustrations to really show the personality of Melissa and also sent a picture of her. (Who the story is about).
They describe her as optimistic, warm, happy and energetic. And they would like that her emotions are clearly visible.
I’m getting all the information via a third person so I’m a bit nervous about getting this right.

Feeling a bit disney-esque... :( Dont like that.
But i also dont have alot of time to keep working on it until im happy.

Extend my working period until August
and focus on the following:
1. Character design
2. Final illustrations x2/3

SO this is what came of the first illustration. It’s okay... there are textures that i like but the subject was difficult for me. Very positive. and the overall feel is... “cute”. I dont love that. I’d like to work on that, finding ways to make illustrations that I like visually even when its not my usual subjects. I wish that I played more with the composition and made more of an abstracted metaphor while keeping what they wanted. Its difficult to keep an artistic vision thats mine while also following what the client wants.
That being said I had alot of fun working with coloured pencils, so much so, that I worked late into the night. It was really cozy.
