WEEK 2

10/02/26

Using the resources I found last week, I used a writing prompt wheel spinner and came up with the folowing:

Later on I read a good chunk of Grammar of Fantasy and it’s already proved to be such a useful book. The key is to reduce plots to the simple actions and then pull it far away from the original with different settings, actions and characters that it eventually becomes a completely different story to the original.

Next: Write a bit more and anaylse the books from last week.

ANALYSIS:

Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett, Jon Klassen

I LIKE THIS BOOK FOR THE ABSURDITY (A KNITTED VILLAGE). THE RHYTHM WORKS WELL.

Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans

THE FLOW AND RHYME OF THIS BOOK IS GREAT. STORY ENDING IS A BIT ANTICLIMATIC.

Aggie and the Ghost - Matthew Forsythe

I LIKE THIS MOSTLY FOR THE ILLUSTRATIONS, THE COLOURS AND THE CHARACTER DESIGN IS VERY CUTE. I LIKE THAT IT HAS A GHOST.

The Wolf’s Secret - Myriam Dahman, Nicolas Digard, Júlia Sardà

THE STORY IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND FEELS LIKE A CLASSIC. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANIMAL AND HUMAN, I FIND THE MOST INTERESTING. THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE GORGEOUS.

Leina and the Lord of the Toadstools - Myriam Dahman, Nicolas Digard, Júlia Sardà

THIS REALLY FEELS LIKE A BROTHER GRIMM STORY. I LIKE IT FOR ITS DARKNESS AND ALMOST TERRIFYING ATMOSPHERE AND AGAIN FOR THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUMANS AND NATURE.

The Witch in the Tower - Júlia Sardà

I LIKE THE ILLUSTRATIONS  AND THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE BOOK. THE STORY IS A BIT OF A “AND THEN THIS HAPPENED, AND THEN THAT HAPPENED AND THEN AND THEN.”

NEXT STEPS: I BELIEVE I HAVE AN INKLING OF WHAT THE STORY WILL BE. BIG STEP! NOW TO WRITE A FIRST DRAFT.

Gouache practice

12/02/26

I’ve managed to write my first draft . It definetly needs alot of work but I’m very happy I’ve made it this far. These things take time and a lot  of pateince and work. The names of everything are still under development.

Just as the hour struck midnight, a tiny creature took up recidence at 74 Willoway Lane.
This was no ordinary ceature. It was a Tinky Ponk.

Tinky Ponks are just the type of creatures that love to cause mischief. That was their main occupation, infact and by Royal decree of the Tinky Ponks, every cottage, flat, townhouse, cave, treehouse or manor should be inhabited by one Tinky Ponk.

Well, on this particular night, just as the tinky ponk unpacked his luggage in Mrs Pearl’s sewing box, another Tinky ponk began to settle in amoung the porceline.

It’s fair to say that it didn’t take very long for them to run into each other. “Excuse me, but I’m the resident Tinky Ponk of this cottage.” said the first Tinky Ponk. “Fortunetly for me, but unfortunetly for you, you are mistaken. Look it says so right here.” said the second Tinky Ponk.

“There’s only one way to solve this. A mischief challenge!” and a challenge they did have.

Replacing things                                         Hiding things                                              Muddling things

leaving things                                         Eating things                                                 Opening things

The other litte creatures of the home gathered and cheered and gasped at the mischief unfolding before their eyes.

Without a word, the second Tinky ponk dissapeared into a poof. Relieved to have the cottage to himself now, the first Tinky ponk made his bed on the needle cushion for the day.

The coming days, he

Replaced things                                         Hid things                                              Muddled things

left things                                         Ate things                                                 Opened things

but it didn’t feel as wonderful as it did before. There was one thing missing.

Over at 75 Willoway Lane, the second Tinky Ponk began to make his own mischief when it occured to him that the mischief just wasnt the same.

Just as he sighed a rather large poof appeared and there stood the first Tinky Ponk. They both grinned began to

Replace things                                         Hide things                                              Muddle things

leave things                                         Eat things                                                 Open things

Because Mischief is always best practiced with a friend.

Left the draft out of mind until today. Read it over and added notes. I’ll pick this up again in the new week as I think things over the weekend.
